Recruiting Process Myths

Recruiting Process Myths

There are a lot of myths out there about the recruiting process this article aims to give you the truth about some of the most popular myths out there.

1. College Coaches Will Find You If You Are Really Good

This only applies to nationally ranked 5 start prospects. If you fall outside of the national rankings you are going to have to do a lot of work and research to find schools and college coaches to reach out to. One of the best ways to do this is by signing up for Next Level Sports.

2. My Coach Will Handle My Recruiting

Not all coaches help their athletes with recruiting, mainly because they don't have the time and it's not their job. While your coach may help you with your recruiting its your reasonability to be the one taking charge and reaching out to coaches.

3. The Recruiting Process Starts Junior or Senior Year

The recruiting process should start at the earliest 8th grade and the latest being freshman year. For what to do during each year of the recruiting article read the Recruiting Process Timeline

4. D1 Coaches Can Contact You Whenever

This is not true depending on the sport most coaches at the D1 Level can not contact you until June 15th of the athletes Sophomore Year. This does not apply to all sports.

5. D1 Scholarships Are Always Full Rides

Again this is not true. The only 6 sports that all D1 team members receive full scholarships is Men's and Women's Basketball, FBS Football, Women's Volleyball and Women's Gymnastics. Other sports break up the available scholarship money to the entire team based off of skill level.

6. If You Do Not Receive A Scholarship You Can Just Walk On

That used to be the case, however with roster size limits every roster opening is now recruited by the coaching staff to put together the best possible roster each season.
